Top 10 movies in some kind of order (I stole this form Geektown).
Rushmore: funny with out being a funny movie like Garden State but I had less problems with the ending.
Man on Fire: Wounder full tale of dedication and self sacrifice that just resonated with me.
LoTR Two Towers: The last ride of the Helms Deep in a glorious last stand was the closest I have come to crying in a movie.
Diehard (whole series) : The every man who is a hero
Shawn of the Dead: I love how at the end it quickly shifts from funny and light hatred to tragic and scary.
Ghostworld: No one is cool and we all hurt.
Fight Club: the anthem to rebel against effeminisation.
O Brother: I liked the music and the Odyssey parallels not matter how heavy handed they were.
Boondock saints: Evil exists in the inactivity of good men
Ghost Dog: Way of the samurai: The chactor was just so dedicated and true to his adopted philosophy

Anyway.
I love Garden State...why the hostility toward it? Though Rushmore is a damn good movie. All the Wes Anderson movies are. And, yeah, Diehard is great. I grew up on that.
I'm glad to see Ghostworld on there. Not a lot of people seem to know about that one. Very cool little flick about not being cool.
Good list, even without Star Wars.

Plus, Natalie Portman's character was a bit overdone. "Oh, look how zany I am! Watch me do something crazy!"
It was a very enjoyable movie and definitely better than most. I was just annoyed by aspects of it. I think John and I have similar opinions of it.

Rushmore, Man on Fire, Shawn of the Dead, Ghostworld, Boondock saints - never seen 'em
Ghost Dog: Way of the samurai - I've not seen this either. Is it a Japanese movie, ie, only subtitled in English?
LoTR Two Towers - great story, my only complaint was that it made for a really long movie or rather three really long movies.
Diehard - the best pure testosterone and adrenaline movies ever made.
Fight Club - I had mixed feelings about this movie, but the ending is great.
Oh Brother where art thou - I love how the story holds reality so loosely

John
You've never cried in a movie? That aside I must say
it fills my heart with such delight
to know that The Two Towers is graced
with the moment in which you've come the closest to crying in a movie
ever.
